Why public education?

9 in 10 Michigan students attend public schools. That’s more than 1.3 million kids.

Public schools are the anchor of our communities. They are the gathering place for sports and performances, town halls, and voting.

Public schools are the largest employer in many communities.

Home values increase by $20 for every $1 spent on public schools in a community.

Michigan needs ONE BIG PLAN to update and upgrade our education system.

A plan that is made not for Democrats or Republicans, but for all of Michigan’s kids. Then, we must stick to the plan, regardless of shifts in political winds, fine-tuning as we go.

Public education is the bedrock of our society and engine of our prosperity. We have the infrastructure and talent. What we need now is a uniting, community-informed vision to move our public schools and students into the future and the courage and conviction of our policymakers to bring it into action.
